Where the Bavarian Forest is most beautiful…

Warm Welcome and Greetings,

We are delighted that you are interested in our houses and the comfortable vacation apartments within them.

We—the Bickel family—acquired the Old Customs House in the early 1980s and the Old Forestry House in 2016, and we offer holidays in a total of 8 very individual vacation apartments in “where the Bavarian Forest is at its most beautiful.”

The Old Customs House and the Old Forestry House are venerable Bavarian Forest houses, built out of wood and stone in the 1920s. The Customs House has been continuously and lovingly modernized since 2015, and the Forestry House since 2017, so that today the apartments meet a 4-star standard of the tourism association (certified for the 4 large apartments).

Details about the individual houses can be found here: The Old Forestry House, The Old Customs House.

The Old Customs House is located at the foot of Falkenstein in the picturesque village of Zwieslerwaldhaus. It is situated at the end of the quiet village in an absolutely secluded location, directly next to the high forest, in the middle of the Bavarian Forest National Park. The famous Schwellhäusl, as well as the primeval forest trail Mittelsteighütte and Watzlik Hain, are within walking distance.

A large garden with native herbs and magnificent roses invites you to dream and linger. There are plenty of opportunities for playing and barbecuing as well. Scattered throughout the garden, there are fruit trees and berry bushes whose fruits our guests are of course welcome to snack on. Since the summer of 2021, our guests have also enjoyed the cozy “Oide Werkstood,” a place on the property for social gatherings, merry celebrations, and feasting.

The Old Forestry House in Spiegelhütte served as the residence and office of district foresters until the 1990s.

Spiegelhütte is part of the national park community Lindberg. The place is an old Bavarian Forest hamlet and, during the heyday of glass production in the Bavarian Forest, gained some significance as a glass factory village of the Poschinger family. Additionally, it served as the base for forest workers and foresters in the area between Großer Falkenstein and Fahnenriegel. The Old Forestry House is located on the slope directly opposite the small St. Stephan Chapel along a local road. Directly from the house, beautiful hiking trails and bike tours lead to the two large Bavarian Forest peaks or into the beautiful Buchenau with the magnificent castle of the glass barons Poschinger. The Hirschgehe Schereck is within walking distance. The protected Schachtenhaus (the permanent residence served as a home for forest workers of the Glashütte Buchenau estate and was abandoned only in 1952), is one of the last testimonies of the former forest economy and a great excursion point.

Right next to the small wild stream that winds along the house, there is a public playground for children.

The large garden, terraces with barbecue, and especially our mountain hut "Back Wahn" are of course available for our guests to celebrate and feast. Seating scattered around the garden creates space to enjoy our pristine nature in good weather. The sauna barrel in the garden is always a great place to relax and unwind. (Usage fee of €15 per apartment for 4 hours including sauna towels and exclusive use)

In Lindberg itself, one finds, in addition to various good Bavarian inns, shopping facilities (very good butcher and a bakery with a small shop; bread roll service available).

There is naturally no need to worry about parking. Sufficient parking spaces are available at the houses.
